EDE'S CHICKEN SHACK ... this name stands for "GoodTime
Music".
The idea for this Dutch-German band first came up in
2005 when organ player Rafael Jung and bassist Ede decided to play some old Jazz and
Fusion tunes which were originally played by Jimmy Smith or other great players. However,
they had no guitar. They had enjoyed playing with the Dutch guitarist Kees de Groot
before, and when asked, he readily jumped
in. Drummer Mathias Buesseler was invited and walking into the rehearsing room for
the first time, he met an old friend: Kees
de Groot. Both had studied Jazz at the conservatory in Groningen (NL). The first tune
the band ever played was "Back At The Chicken Shack", and the band's name
was born. But, of course, there is a lot more nice stuff to play, g.e. "Cooking
In Style." It only took a short phone call, and a singer, Norbert Anneken, stopped
by. The Session was cooking and smoking right from
the start. Just a few weeks later many more great tunes from the Jazz, Funk, and Soul
songbooks were adopted, and Ede wrote the title song of this album - with a little
help from Norbert.
This album was recorded in Ede's remote old chicken
shack in "House of Jade" under live conditions. That means: No cuts, no overdubs,
just some harmony voices.
This is not a genuine Blues album, but as the title
promises, the blues approach can be found all over the place.
